CranioSacral Therapy (CST)
An exceptionally gentle, yet extremely powerful, hands-on method of releasing restrictions in the head, spine, bones, organs and fascia of the body using the craniosacral system. This form of treatment is increasingly recognized for the depth of its influence, the comprehensive range of its therapeutic effects and its ability to resolve issues that are not helped by other means. It is a profound healing process which can release the deeply held patterns of disease and dysfunction which accumulate throughout life as a result of injury, trauma and illness. Clients most often experience deep relaxation, pain relief and a renewed sense of optimism.
How CST is Performed
CST can be performed on clients fully clothed, while lying on a massage table. Many have found CST to be a welcome alternative to full-body massage for relieving pain and discomfort. If you are someone who prefers not to undress, or if you do not like the feel of the friction, lubricant and pressure of massage, CST is an ideal treatment for your aches, pains and stress.
When CST is combined with therapeutic massage, clients receive optimal body therapy at both a soft tissue and cellular level. So whether performed alone or combined with another therapy, you will be amazed at how much better you feel after just one visit.
During CranioSacral Therapy a light touch equivalent to a nickel’s weight is used to monitor the rhythmic motion of the cerebrospinal fluid within the craniosacral system. Therapists check the rate, amplitude, symmetry, and quality of this wave-like motion at key places throughout the body. Any restrictions or blockages are treated by following and working with the natural movement of the tissue located in the head, spine, bones, organs and fascia of the body. A restriction in one part of the craniosacral system can affect the entire system, so treatment may involve working at a point distant from the overt symptom.
What is the CranioSacral System?
The membranes and fluid of the craniosacral system surround the brain and spinal cord, which house the central nervous system, controlling all aspects of the body. It is a semi-enclosed biological hydraulic system in which cerebrospinal fluid rhythmically pulses. Assisting the hydraulic forces in the craniosacral system and releasing restrictions helps to improve the functioning of the central nervous system and facilitates the body’s innate, self-healing mechanisms. As a result this therapy can relieve undue pressure affecting the entire body, including emotions.
What does CST do?
The objective of this therapy is to find areas of restricted movement that compromise function and to re-establish normal movement. Because the craniosacral system encloses the brain and spinal cord, it influences the entire nervous system, affecting all body functions. These include the brain’s important pituitary and pineal glands. These glands, in turn, have the potential to affect the body’s entire hormone system.
